Midlevel Regulatory Associate Attorney – Fintech

New York | San Francisco | Silicon Valley | Multiple U.S. Offices | 3–6 Years’ Experience | $260,000–$390,000

An established technology-focused legal practice is seeking a Midlevel Regulatory Associate to advise fintech and financial-services businesses navigating some of the most complex and rapidly developing areas of financial regulation.

This role combines regulatory counseling with commercial execution. The successful associate will work directly with innovative businesses on the design and launch of new financial products, helping clients understand regulatory requirements while developing practical structures that support their commercial objectives.

The Opportunity

The associate will advise fintech, technology, and financial-services clients across matters including:

  • Payments, money movement, money transmission, lending, and financial-services licensing
  • Development and launch of new fintech products and business models
  • Federal and state regulatory analysis, licensing strategies, exemptions, and NMLS applications
  • Bank-fintech partnerships, embedded finance, payment processing, card networks, and related arrangements
  • Structuring funds flows, deposit arrangements, and allocation of regulatory and program risk
  • Drafting and negotiating bank partnership, payments, card, processing, program-management, technology, and service-provider agreements
  • BSA/AML programs, consumer disclosures, product terms, marketing review, and ongoing compliance
  • Regulatory diligence for investments, financings, M&A, and other strategic transactions
  • Change-of-control filings and interactions with financial regulators

Associates will have the opportunity to take meaningful ownership of matters, communicate directly with clients and business teams, collaborate with attorneys across complementary practices, and supervise junior team members where appropriate.

Candidate Profile

Candidates should have 3–6 years of relevant experience, including meaningful exposure to fintech or financial-services regulation. Experience should include at least one core area such as payments and money movement, money transmission and licensing, bank-fintech partnerships, or consumer and commercial finance.

Strong commercial drafting experience involving financial products, payments, bank partnerships, technology platforms, or other regulated services is also important.

Experience involving digital assets and stablecoins, BNPL or alternative lending, sanctions and financial-crime compliance, ACH/NACHA, Reg E, card networks, bank regulation, securities regulation, derivatives, regulatory examinations, or fintech M&A would be valuable.

This position will particularly suit an attorney who enjoys understanding how new financial products operate at both a technical and commercial level and can translate complicated or developing regulatory requirements into practical advice for clients.

Candidates must have a JD and previous experience working in a law firm. Strong academic credentials and excellent written, oral, analytical, and interpersonal skills are expected. Admission in California, Washington, New York, or Massachusetts is preferred but not essential.

The anticipated base salary range is $260,000–$390,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location. Eligible attorneys may also be considered for discretionary performance-based compensation.
