Real Estate Counsel Attorney
Real Estate Counsel Attorney
New York City | 8+ Years’ Experience | $300,000–$400,000
A sophisticated commercial real estate practice is seeking an experienced Real Estate Counsel to join its New York office.
This opportunity is designed for an established real estate attorney who can independently lead complex transactions, work directly with sophisticated clients and play a senior role within a busy practice. The position has a particular emphasis on commercial real estate finance, while offering exposure to a broad range of transactional matters.
Importantly, a portable book of business is not required. The focus is on securing a technically strong attorney with significant transaction experience, although candidates interested in developing client relationships and expanding their practice will have the opportunity to do so.
The Practice
The team advises lenders, owners, developers, investors and funds across sophisticated commercial real estate transactions.
The successful candidate will handle matters involving:
- Mortgage, mezzanine and construction financings.
- Complex real estate finance transactions.
- Commercial real estate workouts and restructurings.
- Acquisitions and dispositions.
- Real estate development matters.
- Commercial leasing.
- Condominium-related matters.
Lender-side finance experience is particularly valued, and candidates should be comfortable taking substantial ownership of transactions and navigating complex financing structures.
Candidate Profile
Candidates should have:
- 8+ years of commercial real estate experience, with significant exposure to real estate finance.
- A JD and previous experience working in a law firm.
- Significant experience representing sophisticated participants in commercial real estate transactions.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- The ability to independently manage complex transactions from inception through closing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the confidence to work directly with clients and counterparties.
- Admission to the New York Bar.
Experience spanning workouts, leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, development and condominium matters will be valuable alongside a strong foundation in real estate finance.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role provides the chance to join an established real estate platform while operating with the autonomy expected at Counsel level.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take ownership of sophisticated matters, deepen relationships with institutional and entrepreneurial clients, and broaden their practice across complementary areas of commercial real estate.
There is no requirement to bring an existing portable practice, making this particularly attractive for senior associates or existing counsel who have developed substantial technical expertise but want a platform where their progression is not dependent on arriving with a significant book of business.
Candidates who do have existing relationships or see opportunities to develop new business will also have the scope to build on those connections.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is $300,000–$400,000, with actual compensation determined by experience, skills and other relevant factors.
The broader compensation package includes bonus eligibility, health and insurance benefits, and a 401(k) plan.
